I'm Sonja Thompson, a Senior Editor for TechRepublic, and I've got some exciting news to share with you all today.
Last year, in 2009, we held a community gathering to celebrate TechRepublic's 10-year- anniversary, and we had members who traveled from the UK, Ireland, Canada, and from across the United States. Well, we had such a great time that we decided we should try to make this an annual "thing."
And since we don't have a major anniversary to celebrate this year, we thought it would be more appropriate to host an event that more closely resembled a tech conference, with a TechRepublic community twist.
So, without further ado, I'm very pleased to announce "TechRepublic Live 2010: The Changing Face of IT" on June 30th through July 2nd in Louisville, Kentucky.
The event will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn Northeast. In fact, it's the same location as last year's 10th Anniversary Celebration, and so for those folks who will be returning, you already know that it s really close to an open-air mall and lots of restaurants -- so in case you decide to make this a family trip, rest assured that there's plenty of stuff in the vicinity to do.
The Hilton also has blocked off rooms for the TR community at $89 per night, which is a very competitive rate, especially leading up to the 4th of July weekend. To make your reservation, please call area code (502) 423-0018. And let them know that you're a member of TechRepublic so that you get the reduced rate.
As for the actual conference, it will be a mix of presentations on the changes and challenges of working in IT from TechRepublic editors, writers, and community members. There will also be a series of peer-driven discussions on the topics that the TR community deems most important and most timely.
It sounds great, right? I already know that a few folks wouldn't miss it for the world, but we'd appreciate official confirmation by way of e-mail -- and that e-mail address is trol@techrepublic.com. I hope that you all are as excited as we are. Now, let the countdown begin!
