The future wireless Internet is expected to consist of different types of wireless networks with different coverage range. The hybrid network of WLAN and WMAN can take advantage of them to offer high quality service. In this paper, the authors propose a scheme to make handoff in IEEE 802.16 and IEEE 802.11 hybrid networks. The metric is the bandwidth of network level. The proposed algorithm is a bandwidth based adaptive fuzzy logic algorithm that can adapt itself with the dynamic conditions of the hybrid networks. It uses mobile host's speed and traffic in the WLAN as input fuzzy variables. This algorithm is designed to meet special requirements of hybrid networks.
