A Comparative Study of Generalized Predictive Control With PID Control
Source: National University of Sciences and Technology
In a competitive environment, plants have to be operated as economically and efficiently as possible which necessitates the controller design with more information, while PID type designs make use of little information about the plant and hence are unable to deal with constrained Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) problems effectively. A Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) algorithm on the other hand demand and utilize a model and then make use of more information, leads to a systematic design. In this paper, a comparison has been provided through examples to illustrate the features of GPC and PID for MIMO system, which could give more insight for better choice of controller design related to specific problems.
