Many researches have been conducted on the dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) and dynamic power management (DPM) to reduce the power consumption. Embedded systems such as personal multimedia players and personal digital assistants, require long battery life without reducing their performance. Since there are a lot of devices which are operated by batteries for ubiquitous environments, the effective power management is the most important factor. Most researches are focused on power saving methods for hardware circuits. DVS has proven as a highly effective technique to reduce the power consumption of devices. But, software design and control should be considered to minimize the total energy consumption. This paper presents a power management method using application behaviors for embedded multimedia systems with QoS guarantee.
