A Load-Balancing Mechanism Using Un-Periodical Load Information Update Based on Task Estimation and Surrogate Capability for Cyber Foraging

This paper proposed a load-balancing algorithm for Cyber Foraging services, which is a mechanism to augment the computational and storage capabilities of mobile devices. Since cyber foraging uses opportunistically discovered servers in the environment to improve the performance of interactive applications and distributed file systems on mobile clients, the conventional load-balancing algorithms founded on periodic load-information update mechanism are not suitable for it. The authors' proposed load-balancing algorithm uses non-periodic load-update mechanism and the cyber foraging Service Discovery Server (SDS) works as the web switch and re-arranges the load-balancing schedule according to surrogates' reporting.
