A Low-Latency and Error-Resilient Video-on-Demand Broadcasting Protocol Using UEP-Rateless Codes

In this paper a new reliable and low-latency Video-On-Demand (VOD) broadcasting protocol is proposed. Most existing VOD broadcasting protocols have no protection against frame loss. In order to acquire loss-resiliency, the authors encode each segment of a partitioned video with an Unequal Error Protection (UEP) rate-less code. Using this error correction encoding scheme, the inevitable VOD broadcasting start-up delay reduces significantly. Furthermore, they present a modified version of their protocol with reduced bandwidth requirement on the client side.
