A Platform for Service-Oriented Integration of Software Engineering Environments

In modern software application development, engineering systems and tools from several sources have to cooperate for building agile process environments. While there are approaches for the technical integration of component-based business software systems, there is only little work on the flexible and efficient integration of engineering tools and systems along the software life cycle. In this paper, the authors introduce the concept of the "Engineering Service Bus" (EngSB) based on established Enterprise Service Bus concepts for business software systems. Based on real-world use cases from software engineering they show how the EngSB allows prototyping new variants of software engineering processes and derive research issues for further work.
