Optical networks are in continuous demand for their large bandwidth availability. Many optical switching paradigms have been proposed. Among these paradigms, three of them have received more attention from scientists and researchers in this field. These three paradigms are: Optical Circuit Switching(OCS), Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Burst Switching (OBS). The last paradigm is seen as the most viable solution to support the growth of Internet users and bandwidth-greedy applications. Nevertheless, high burst loss at the core network remains unsolved issue in OBS. High burst loss is attributed to contention.
