A Risk Management Perspective: The Inpatient Prospective Payment System Final Rules for 2008 and 2009

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) of the Department of Health and Human Services issued a final rule on August 1, 2007, which revises the acute care hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems (IPPS). It is probably safe to say that previously most risk management professionals did not fully comprehend the intricacies of the IPPS nor did they deal directly with the IPPS as part of their daily activities.
