A Scheme to Estimate One-Way Delay Variations for Diagnosing Network Traffic Conditions
Source: Cyber Journals
Real-time applications over the Internet, such as Voice-over-IP and video streaming services, are increasingly being applied to practical communication services so how to evaluate service qualities and how to diagnosis the cause of service degradation has become one of the key issue for QoS management. Various kinds of measurement metrics over IP networks including One-Way Delay Variation (OWDV), Inter-Packet Delay Variation (IPDV), and packet losses, have been standardized. In particular, OWDV is useful for analyzing the network traffic conditions since this metric directly reflects the queuing buffer delays generated in the network nodes.
