A Service Oriented Architectural Design for Building Intrusion Detection Systems

The unprecedented increase in usage and dependence on the internet, has led to a flood of security attacks on computing infrastructure. Moreover, the attacks are also becoming more and more sophisticated. Even though wide varieties of IDS are available today, they are unable to address challenges that surround different types of attacks. Most of these IDS are designed to handle specific types of attacks. It is evident that no single technique can guarantee protection against future attacks. Hence there is a need for integrated architecture which can provide robust protection against a complete spectrum of threats. This paper proposes an architectural design based on the service oriented paradigm for building intrusion detection systems.
