In this paper, the authors concentrate on the automated provisioning of inter-AS services based on GMPLS-TE technology. They consider a provider alliance where TE connections are established between the members of the alliance. They propose an efficient and economically feasible architecture for the automatic provisioning of inter-AS GMPLS-TE, based on the introduction of a multi-domain service plane coupled with the PCE-based architecture. Carriers usually deploy Traffic Engineering (TE) technologies such as Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS)-TE to offer value-added services. Nevertheless, these technologies are restricted to intra-domain networks, narrowing the scope of potential service offers. Currently, there is a clear demand to extend guaranteed service offers beyond domain boundaries.
