A Spectrum White Paper: Thoughts on Google Android

Google Android is a new mobile handset platform based on Linux, Apache Harmony and a proprietary, for the moment at least, custom virtual machine named Dalvik. Arguably, the Android platform has many advantages over other mobile platforms, both in and out of the scope of security. There are also however, numerous shortcomings of the platform as it exists today. The developer tooling available for Android today is limited to an officially supported module for the Eclipse IDE that offers very few features in terms of developer support.
