A Survey on Assembly Line Balancing and Sequencing Approaches
The major problems that greatly affect the overall performance of the assembly lines are designing, balancing, and sequencing. It has been observed from the experimental results that the single model line has been given satisfactory importance with various research techniques but only slight consideration has been paid to the mixed and the multi model line balancing issues. Mixed-model lines were mainly used for high-variety, low quantity job shop or batch production. The ever rising requirement of the global market for product variety influences producers to switch from the mass batch production of a small number of product kinds to small-lot production of many varieties.
