In this paper the authors draw together 35 years' experience as business to business market researchers and the findings of a recently commissioned study of over 245 small and medium enterprises (SME) throughout the UK to give a deeper understanding of how b2b advertising works. There are over a thousand classifications of SMEs and many of these operate small shops or cafes. These have been excluded from this survey and they concentrate on those that are mainly in a business to business environment.
