Established in 1999, HAL9000, was esteemed for its high quality computer science experience, was already well respected in the field of high-end, high-definition photography. It needed to bring to life a 4.60 by 8.80 metre-long fresco by making a digitized version available to the public online, to process over 120 gigabytes worth of data, comprising 1677 digital images and to electronically stitch together 1677 digital images of 73 megabytes each on average. HAL9000 deployed Custom-built hardware powered by two Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, complemented by 16 gigabytes of memory and a 2.0 terabyte hard disk.
