According to the FCC regulation, if the fractional bandwidth is greater than 0.25 or total bandwidth is greater than 500MHz, it is classified as an UWB signal. Based on this regulation, several pulse shapes can be classified as UWB signals. In particular, Gaussian-based pulses such as the first- and second-order derivatives of the Gaussian pulses have been considered as UWB signals and several designs have been proposed. However, those Gaussian-based UWB signals do not meet with the emission power requirement of the FCC regulation.
