It is important to study the traffic in the wireless network control and management. This paper proposes the use of the EVT (Extreme Value Theory) for the analysis of wireless network traffic. The role of EVT is to allow the development of procedures that are scientifically and statistically rational to estimate the extreme behavior of random processes. The authors have performed extensive simulation experiments by taking traffic data that is greater than a given threshold value. The results of their experiments and analysis show the wireless network traffic model obtained through the EVT fits well with the empirical distribution of traffic.
