Auditing Campus - Wide Local Area Networks (LANs) for Virtual LAN Configurations Using a Simple Network Manager
Source: Indian Institute of Management Calcutta
This idea of this paper is to provide a management framework that has been developed for small-scale enterprises and non-commercial organizations including educational institutions. The network management framework talked about in this paper is designed to smooth the progress of auditing of the campus networks using a simple network management tool. It takes the example of a premier Indian educational institute. Network base lining for the case site has been done with the use of a simple network manager with Remote Monitoring (RMON) facilities. This paper also recommends the execution of virtual LANs that can also increase the security of networks. With the ever-changing user-requirement, the focus on LAN Performance Assessment has been successfully planned for the change in the need of network security. Real-life technical issues are addressed using the LAN performance assessment that allows the growth of an efficient network infrastructure plan. It also helps in resolution of technical conflicts that occur when the organization gets other network resources or new technologies and applications. The optimization of network service response time and the network availability are also discussed in this report. This paper states that analysis of the network can be simplified by proper identification of the user group that is supported by objective analysis. The study talks about the bandwidth analysis that should be supported by the subjective analysis of the user group in order to shorten network auditing exercise.
