How can personal profiling be used to stimulate participation in learning networks? To ensure personal empowerment and job performance, it has become increasingly important to continuously acquire new competences and updating existing capacities. As the learner works to develop his personal competence, it pays to find suitable learning opportunities, relevant information and optimal support, particularly in interactions with others. People make use of informal knowledge sharing through ad hoc learning communities and Learning Networks. TEN Competence project is currently developing Personal Competence Manager with the aim to support the knowledge development of learners in social interaction with their peers in learning communities. In order to meet exact learning needs of a user, social encounters in Learning Networks need various cues. The paper looks at the role of personal profiling and context portfolio information can play by studying multiple suggestions to bootstrap learning interaction. The paper primarily aims to build a common ground for communication and trust with the ultimate goal to enhance the learning process.
