Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Office SharePoint Server 2007 offer out-of-the-box backup and restore capabilities. However, when one plans for disaster recovery and high availability, one should consider alternative approaches based on specific environment and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). These approaches include Microsoft SQL Server 2005 failover clustering, Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006, and 2007. This white paper describes how to perform backups and restores by using the native SharePoint Products and Technologies features, how to use SQL Server 2005 to provide failover solutions in the event of disaster, and how to use DPM to protect data.
