Best Practices for Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) on Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning Software
Source: Hitachi Data Systems
Prior to today, networked external storage was introduced in a step fashion. First, the current and some future storage capacity requirements were studied. Then, the minimum required capacity was purchased and installed. Over time, expansion disks were added as necessary to increase storage capacity in "Sep" increments. However, in current IT systems, with the spread of Internet-based business, video and movie content, and all types of digital data, the amount of data handled on a daily basis is rapidly increasing. Since the future storage capacity requirements are forecast to be very high, initial introduction costs are rising dramatically. These costs place pressure on estimating and managing capacity, just when the process is becoming extraordinarily complex.
