With the anonymity of the Internet, greater access to information online and large profits to be made by reselling hot products like the iPhone, subscription fraud is becoming a common problem for telecommunications companies. As a result, Bouygues Telecom wanted to gain greater insight into "Who is who", "Who knows who" and "Who does what" as it analyzed online and store sales. Using an analysis platform from IBM, the company can analyze customer information (phone number, payment information, postal and IP addresses, etc.) across disparate data sources. Information is scored using sophisticated algorithms and compared against historical, risk and usage data to provide insight into customer behavior and reveal possible matches with known fraudsters.
