Brazilian Navy Moves From Mainframe to HP Platform: Modernizing IT, Cutting Costs
Source: Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The Brazilian Navy wanted to lower cost - to reduce the BRL 6 million (US$3 million) spent annually to keep the mainframe operational, including software licenses, maintenance, and database. The challenge was to have more agile IT architecture - to keep up with the way business is evolving and improve cost-benefit ratio - to gain a more cost-effective solution than is possible using the mainframe operating software. As a solution they migrated all mainframe-based database environments to an open, Linux-based platform and adopted an HP- and Oracle-based distributed platform as an alternative to the mainframe environment.
