Broadband Video the Next Phase of Network Transformation
Source: Alcatel-Lucent
Internet Protocol TeleVision (IPTV) is entering the mass market. To make this successful and expand their customer base, service providers have been focusing on delivering basic broadcast TV and Video on Demand (VoD) with Quality of Service (QoS). To do so, they have had to transform their networks to purpose-built, next generation, IP-based infrastructures that enable them to meet the scalability and reliability requirements for the delivery of quality video. Today, network operators are facing a new challenge: internet video is growing exponentially, generating massive bandwidth consumption without clear options to generate additional revenues. Although they compete for the same eyeballs, IPTV and Internet TV are complementary, and service providers that are able to deliver both are in the best position to maximize end-user value.
