Building Applications in the Cloud
Source: Oracle
The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is designed to build and install Oracle Database and Oracle Application Express applications. A browser-based application, Oracle Application Express needs to provide the URL for the cloud environment to the developers and end users. Various development teams and their linked applications are suitable to coexist within a single database instance on Amazon EC2 with different capabilities of Oracle Database and Oracle Application Express. Discussed in this paper is the process of creating an Oracle Application Express instance on Amazon EC2. In order to establish cloud environment, Amazon Web Services account is created with signing in process for three services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). The applications with Oracle Application Express can be created after configuring Amazon Web Services environment. The environment can be reconfigured and adjusted according to the changing requirements of the level of service. The applications developed on Amazon EC2 can be migrated to the internal systems easily. After the installation of correct version of Oracle Application Express on the target server, Oracle Application Express application, database schema, and data from Amazon EC2 can be exported and then imported on the target server. Amazon EC2 mentioned here suggests various sizing options with price points that differ by size and resource consumption.
