Carole Fabrics Cuts Delivery Time With LANSA Commerce Edition
Carole Fabrics is a manufacturer of custom draperies, bedspreads, window coverings and other quality home decorations. Based in Augusta, Georgia the company uses the LANSA Commerce Edition to offer customers with online order entry and inquiry. This includes a web-based Configurator that can take up custom orders and integrates with Carole's MAPICS solution. Before implementation with LANSA, more than 40% of the custom orders could not be made without the company us calling the decorator and finding more information. This added to the delivery time. The company started with automating fabric swatch and other yardage orders because they fit well in the standard order entry model. Carole started with providing online stock inquiry, order tracking and taking orders of fabric yardage. They engaged the LANSA Commerce Edition that offers online order tracking directly from MAPICS irrespective of whether the orders were taken on phone, fax or the web. While the company's web solution provides data directly from an ERP solution, the company didn't have a direct connection to the Internet. They brought in LANSA's Edge Server configuration with a Windows ISS server on the network to access iSeries. This decreased load on the network. Because of the specifications required for custom orders, the company uses a question and answer script. There are also numerous questions, answers and business rules to follow. Carole therefore decided to write and modularize its own Configurator engine while maintaining the MAPICS file structure.
