This paper is a case study by Torry Harris on how Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has been applied successfully for a leading liner and shipping group. The organization required a state-of-the-art Global Management System (GMS) catering to the group's global offices; a backbone to support integration with the global offices of the group. The client was keep to adopt an IBM based SOA solution, phasing out existing systems without the need to re-use. The paper describes the needs of the client in developing the system, and the processes that were already in place. It also discusses the steps taken in implementing the system and the challenges faced therein. The software solutions implemented in the SOA based approach are also discussed.
