Network inventory management is an essential component of robust network management architectures. Tools that provide planning, design, and lifecycle management for network assets should be the primary focus of any well-managed network. Network inventory systems should be implemented that provide actionable information that administrators can use to improve network management performance and help develop effective network asset control processes. Providing an inventory management strategy is outside the scope of this paper, but an effort should be made to create a process that provides strategies and recommendations on the architecture and design for the flow of information within the NMS architecture.
