Commitment-Based Service-Oriented Architecture
Source: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
The vision of Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) promises the creation of a dynamic Web of value. According to this vision, anyone desiring to offer something of value can create and deploy a corresponding service; anyone wishing to benefit from that value can simply select one or more services and compose them into a desired application - or another service. Current Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) purport to support the SOC vision, but what they realize is fundamentally more limited than the vision. The SOC vision implies that services are business services. However, current SOAs interpret services narrowly - as surrogates for computational objects.
