As telecom OSS companies migrate their existing voice networks to meet the growing demand for data, they face tough choices. While the answers aren't easy, communication companies know they have no choice. Over the next few years, analog voice service is expected to lose its dominant market share, as digital data services rapidly outpace the demand for voice. For many incumbent carriers, data already contributes more than 50 percent of their revenues and that growth trend is expected to continue, as voice slips to as little as five to 10 percent of revenues. Cable companies can offer high-speed data, and when they can also offer voice services across a common network interface, the need for voice networks of yesterday will diminish rapidly.
