Comparison of Web Service Development Platforms
Source: BITS Pilani- Dubai
Web services usage is gaining considerable momentum as a way to handle complex transactions and to enable business to business collaborations. Web services allow organizations to share costs, skills and resources by joining their applications and systems. In this paper, the authors make a comparison between the two choices that businesses have for building XML-based Web services: the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), built by Sun Microsystems and Microsoft.NET, built by Microsoft Corporation. Some of the features on which the comparison is made include tools available for Web service generation, support for UDDI registries, support for RPC and message driven Web services and since security is a major concern in Web services they look at the security offered in both the platforms.
