The last decade has seen two trends that significantly challenge the success of Internet. One of them is the dramatic increase in both frequency and virulence of fast-propagate worm attacks, and the other is the lack of enough IP addresses for the growing Internet community. The development of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) seems to be a single solution to both of the problems. With the original goal to overcome several fundamental limitations with IPv4, its huge address space not only successfully provides an "Infinite" address pool for the growing number of machines, but "Accidentally" makes scan-based worms not effective, therefore limiting the survival of fast-propagate worms, which more or less use some form of Internet scanning.
