Create Fault-Tolerant SQL Server 2008 Installations - Rely on SQL Server 2008 Features to Protect Data
Source: Microsoft
There are various organizations that are dependent on SQL databases to store their data. These systems need databases all the time that leads to running of the server in a fault tolerant configuration. The fault tolerant features of SQL Server 2008 have been widened by Microsoft that has made it easy to use and execute them. These features extended by Microsoft are designed to protect either single-site or multi-site SQL server implementations with or without custom hardware and software tools. Discussed in this paper are the techniques that are important in protecting SQL environment when running SQL Server on Dell PowerEdge Servers. All fault tolerant model mentioned here are designed with their implementation strategy and each addresses particular pain points in data availability. The fault tolerant database infrastructures either need the implementation of various database servers to offer data redundancy or the formation of server clusters to make sure that the database service is always on. By relying in Dell PowerEdge Servers powered by multi-core processors, the strategies implemented can help in achieving the best database services running SQL Server 2008. All features of SQL Server 2008 that provides constant data availability are mentioned and discussed in this paper. It also talks about various aspects that allow the organizations to configure the level of fault tolerance that is important to protect and secure the data.
