Current Trends in Federal Civilian Backup: Part III - Replication-Based Backup
Replication technology has traditionally been used to accomplish disaster recovery and critical recovery time objectives for systems with the most critical data and with high-availability requirements. In this scenario, a primary system is replicated to a secondary system, either locally or at a remote location. Then, in the event of a primary system outage, users and services are redirected to the secondary system via automatic or manual failover. Depending on the vendor, replication is accomplished using technology within the disk array or through software running on the host system.
