Because of the hydroelectric development and other human activities along Columbia River, the Hanford Reach near Richland, Washington has become a critical river portion for the spawning of fall Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha. There is continuing interest in fall Chinook spawning habitat and the influence of river flow related properties on spawning habitat. River specific spawning suitability index and statistical logistic regression have been previously used for predicting the area of suitable habitat for fall Chinook salmon spawning in the Hanford Reach of the Columbia River.
