This paper is focused on the most important theoretical concepts of the IPv6 protocol, such as addressing, address allocation, routing with the RIPng protocol and two IPv4 to IPv6 transition mechanisms. It describes the design and simulation of connectivity between devices of a network configured with IPv6 protocol, employing dual stack and tunneling as transition mechanisms, all that through the use of two network simulators, Packet Tracer and GNS3. The Internet is becoming omnipresent and has been exponentially growing in size.
