Design-Time Optimization Techniques for Middleware QoS Configuration in Distributed Real-Time Systems

In component-based Distributed, Real-time, and Embedded (DRE) systems, the deployment of application components and configuration of the middleware play an important role in determining the resulting performance and resource consumption of the system. Existing component placement algorithms, such as bin packing, make effective deployment decisions. However, these algorithms determine only the node assignments but say nothing about how components are allocated to different middleware containers, which are known to impact the performance and resource consumption.
