Desktop Virtualization and Thin Client Options
Global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms face an increasingly difficult environment - projects are growing in risk, complexity, and size, while customers expect delivery on or ahead of schedule, at or below budget, with exacting safety and quality standards. EPC firms must leverage advances in technology to improve their workers' efficiency and effectiveness and utilize the opportunities presented by a globally educated workforce. The unique demands of the flexible, mobile, and distributed employees of these firms can be addressed by virtualization and thin client architectures. This paper outlines the challenges faced by the EPC firm and the advantages and disadvantages to consider when evaluating both desktop and application virtualization, as well as client architecture choices.
