Developing Key Performance Indicators: Designing Measurement For Faculty Concerns

An explicit process for tracking measures is required: evaluation of qualitative Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be via self-reflection followed by external validation and benchmarking against the best health sciences faculties will clarify what our achievements mean. Integration with strategic direction setting is vital. The irony is not lost on us that we are writing about developing and implementing KPIs instead of getting on with implementation. In our defence, writing up has facilitated our learning from the development process. A major outcome of developing indicators has been greater awareness of the need for explicit attention to organisational learning.
