Empowering a Flexible Application Portal With a SOA-Based Grid Job Management Framework

The complexity of simultaneously providing customized user interfaces and transparent Grid access has led to a situation where current Grid portals tend to either be tightly coupled to specific middlewares or only provide generic user interfaces. In this paper, the authors build upon the methodology of the Grid Job Management Framework and propose a flexible and robust 3-tier integration architecture that decouples application interface customization from Grid job management. Furthermore, they illustrate the approach with a proof of concept integration of the Lunarc Application Portal, which here serves as both a framework for the creation of application-oriented user interfaces and a Grid portal, and the Grid Job Management Framework, a framework for transparent access to multiple Grid middlewares.
