Systems and assets whether physical or virtual are so vital to a nation that the incapacity or destruction of such systems and assets would have enormous impact on the nation's security, national public health or safety or any combination of those matters. Thus, this paper presents the challenges and the protection mechanisms in two major approaches defined towards resiliency. Critical Infrastructure is perceived as an essential part of national security in numerous countries today and has become the nucleus of the US terrorism and homeland security debate after 11 September 2001.
