Exploring Trustee Leadership As An Essential Governance Role

Governance and leadership are both large and amorphous concepts. Each incorporates aspects of institutions and organizations, individuals and social symbolism. Each also involves actions, practices, consequences and the use of power. Both governance and leadership are relational. Governance involves leadership much of the time and some leaders govern (Duerst-Lahti and Kelly, 1995). Discussions on leadership related to educational administration abound in the research literature. Many of these discussions interpret school leadership with reference to the position and role of educational administrators, that is, those people working in public education in positions of system level decision-making.
