Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) are small diameter earth stations used to transmit and receive voice and data communications via satellite. The terminal size is usually between 1 to 3 meters in diameter and transmission rates can go from 9.6 KBPS for low traffic applications to trunking applications with transmission rates up to 2 or 3 MBPS. VSATs are used to interconnect a large numbers of geographically dispersed locations to a central location or for interconnections between remote locations. The VSAT satellite networks use Geostationary satellites (GEO). A GEO satellite is at an altitude of 35,786 Kilometers above the equator. Any satellite in this orbit will rotate in a speed that will look stationary from the surface of the Earth.
