As network service providers and equipment suppliers continue to invest in innovation, access networks that are designed to support the delivery of high-intensity services such as IPTV and triple play have become more reliable, scalable, and cost-effective than ever. The prohibitive expense of optical components at one time meant fiber access deployments were reserved for only the largest of service providers. However, with recent reductions in the cost to acquire, deploy and operate fiber access networks - driven by competition and technology innovation - these deployments are now feasible even in low and medium scale service provider scenarios. As a result, service providers are increasingly turning to deep fiber architectures to deliver cost efficient bandwidth to residential and business end customers.
