HP StorageWorks XP Disk Arrays and Mainframe White Paper: An Introduction to Mainframe Data Backup and Disaster Recovery
Source: Hewlett-Packard (HP)
The concept of data backup includes not only the backing up of data, but also the ability to restore the data after a loss, whether that loss is accidental (disk failure) or the result of deliberate destruction. To ensure data consistency, it is imperative that all of the data required to rebuild and restart the system be stored on the backup copy, and that the data has been backed up at the same Point In Time (PIT). Modern backup techniques can be used, as long as available interfaces to the operating system and databases support the consistency of the data.
