"Intelligent Infrastructure" Leverages HP Servers, Virtualization
Source: Hewlett-Packard (HP)
Virtualization has become a powerful tool to improve the cost-effectiveness, flexibility and reliability of IT infrastructures. Few organizations appreciate this more than the technology team at Indiana University (IU), where a pioneering virtualization initiative has dramatically cut costs, enhanced flexibility, and changed people's thinking about IT. IU established a new paradigm for its IT infrastructure, which it has dubbed the "Intelligent Infrastructure." Beginning in 2003, it began virtualizing servers and providing infrastructure as a service. To date, the university has virtualized 790 servers on just 34 HP ProLiant DL585 physical servers with the Linux operating system.
