Internet 3.0: Ten Problems With Current Internet Architecture and Solutions for the Next Generation
Source: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
The basic ideas of the Internet architecture were developed 30+ years ago. In these 30 years, the authors have learnt a lot about networking and packet switching. Is this the way they would design the Internet if they were to start it now? This paper is an attempt to answer this question raised by US National Science Foundation, which has embarked on the design of the next generation Internet called GENI. In this paper, they point out key problems with the current Internet Architecture and propose directions for the solutions. They propose a general architectural framework for the next generation Internet, which they call Internet 3.0.
