On Jan. 18, 2005, Airbus officially unveiled its long-awaited A380, the double-deck mega liner that the European consortium had invested more than $13 billion and spent 13 years to develop. The festive debut was staged in a huge hangar in Toulouse, France, and drew a crowd of 5,000, including aviation luminaries and political leaders from France, Germany, Great Britain and Spain.
