Joint Iterative Parameter Estimation From the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound for an OFDM System
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has become a popular wireless data transmission technique and has been adopted into several standards like IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) and IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX). Some of the unknown parameters related to a typical OFDM system include sampling frequency offset, RF oscillator frequency offset, phase noise and the channel co-efficient. Inaccurate estimation of these parameters results in a system degradation and poses a severe impairment to high speed communication. In this paper, the authors propose a joint iterative parameter estimation technique for a Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) OFDM system which is derived from the generalized frame-work of the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB).
